About Derma Care Access Network
The Derma Care Access Network sponsors educational initiatives and advocacy programs that promote informed policymaking and advance access to approved therapies and appropriate clinical care.
These programs build a network of informed, engaged advocates who are prepared to educate, organize and advocate for policies that advance DCAN's mission.
DCAN promotes better skin health through advocating for public policies that:
- Encourage the advancement of dermatological science and innovation
- Support the education of patients, health care providers and other stakeholders
- Promote the development of improved means of preventing and treating skin disease
- Further access to appropriate prevention and treatment options for all patients.
More than skin deep
Skin conditions affect tens of millions of Americans, and their effects reach far beyond the skin's surface.
Tens of millions affected
More than 30 million Americans experience atopic dermatitis or some form of eczema, while approximately 7.5 million struggle with psoriasis. Acne affects roughly 50 million Americans.
Effects beyond the surface
Patients frequently report anxiety, depression and sleep disruptions — undermining their ability to function at work, school and in social situations, and exacting both a financial and emotional toll.
A barrier to treatment
Increasingly these patients face another challenge: accessing necessary medications. Some health plans require onerous utilization management protocols, prolonging the time patients must spend in discomfort.
